Presentation SRBGE

Administrative council is composed of 9 members and meet at least 3 times /year :

Scientific council is composed of 10 members who assist the administrative council in its scientific function.

Around 400 members are registered either as effective members or trainee members of the society.


Aims

Public health

  • improve prevention, screening and treatment of gastrointestinal tract diseases
  • favour information and education of the population about gastrointestinal tract diseases
  • keep contact with national and regional authorities to help and reach the two previous aims

    Research

  • favour collaborations between clinical and research centres in gastrointestinal tract diseases
  • promote national and regional research projects on epidemiology of gastrointestinal diseases
  • participation in the Georges Brohée Fund (see link)

    Professional life

  • favour adhesion to SRBGE
  • favour interactions between national interest groups working on specific topics of gastrointestinal tract diseases (including hepatology, pancreas, inflammatory bowel disease, oncology, endoscopy,…)
  • provide health professionals with specific guidelines
  • encourage health professionals to improve and evaluate quality of health care

    Continuous training

  • provide health care professionals with high quality symposiums on various topics related to gastrointestinal tract diseases


    Actions

    Scientific meetings

  • participation in the “Belgian week of Gastroenterology” (see link). Belgian week of Gastroenterology is the national meeting of gastroenterology with around 500 participants. The SRBGE is one of the 6 Belgian societies taking part in its organisation.
  • organisation of the “Day of the President”. This one day clinical symposium is usually held in June and is organized with the active collaboration of the President of the Society.
  • organisation of the “Actualities in Gastroenterology”. This one day scientific and clinical symposium is usually held in October and is organized with the active collaboration of the scientific council of the Society.

    Medical journal

  • The SRBGE edits the journal “Acta Gastroenterologica Belgica” (Actagastroenterologica on the net- see link). This journal is published 4 times a year and publishes peer-reviewed original papers, case-reports or reviews, as well as extended summaries from the symposiums organized by the Society.


    Adhesions

  • SRBGE is open to every request of adhesion. Members must be physicans or scientists interested in the field of gastroenterology
  • request must be made before the 15th of January each year as the General Assembly is usually held mid-February (in conjunction with the Belgian Week of Gastroenterology).
  • annual adhesion fee is 75 euros for trainees and 100 euros for specialists and include adhesion, free participation to the 2 SRBGE symposiums (‘Day of the President’ and ‘Actualities in Gastroenterology’) as well as subscription to the journal “acta gastroenterological belgica”
